Giraffe

“I can’t remember what I was first, a money box or a giraffe. People keep feeding me coins that I never seem to be able to digest. My nights are full of dreams. Sometimes I become a cuddly toy and someoneputs their arms around me. Sometimes I’m in the forest, running in the midst of high treetops.”

A giraffe money box changes hands and becomes alive in the minds of its different owners. Without it, a little boy would lose its only friend and, later on, a lover of the sky would never reach so high. Blending the animate with the inanimate, the story explores the life which exists in every object that carries emotions and sentiments. Movement, music and light combine in a visual and poetic piece where humans, puppets and objects interact and explore their relationship with each other.

“ The non-verbal story of Giraffe is shown through the fascinating match of two actors and several elegantly animated puppets, in harmony with the collaboration of all scenic elements. This results in the building of a unique Mediterranean atmosphere, in which organic melancholy and the joy of life are mixed harmonically. The particular value of the performance is that, in the

absence of an illustration and banal didactics, the story is left so open that, in a fruitful, lifeenhancing way, it energizes the imagination, emotions, and mind.”
Jury of the Kotor International Festival for Children

“The enthusiastic reception of the show highlighted the perfect combination of animation, stage design, music and light. The impression of this unforgettable story was achieved by the artists through smooth transitions between sequences, in which every smallest element and movement has significance. The scenography was transformed under the influence of action-dramaturgy, not in order to develop it…There was a desire for this beautiful spectacle not to end. It was difficult to part with the animators and their puppets, by which the young spectators came to realise that the objects of affection gain a soul, and that friendship is the sharing of joy, happiness and sadness alike.”
